The Sale and Supply of Alcohol Act 2012 allows for local councils to create alcohol policies for their communities. These decisions are in consultation with the community and local authority.

 LAP can cover:

  • Restrict the location of licences near sites such as schools, community centres, playgrounds or marae.
  • Restrict the number of licences in an area, to reduce a high number of premises condensed in one area.
  • Restrict the opening hours.
  • LAP can vary from each council and may have different conditions.
